Context

Colorless Odyssey is a game made in my first year at SAE Institute, as a project for the procedural generation subject. It was made in Unity, using C# as the main language, and the pixel art was made around 80% by me on Piskel and what I can’t do, done by my graphic designer friend Plazukie.

The game is playable on Windows and Linux on Steam.

There is a web version on my itch.io page. English and French are supported.

I was greatly inspired by games like Tiny Rogues, Enter the Gungeon and The Binding of Isaac.

I started it in february 2023, and I had 10 weeks to make this game, and I’m very proud of the result.

I have continued to work on it after the project was finished when I had time, and I’m planning to release it on Steam with a lot more content and polish.

The gameplay video from the last version of the game from january 2025:

Here how was the game after 10 weeks:

IA

On the first version of the project, I used MidJourney to create some textures.

Actually, I used a lot Suno to create cool music until I got a composer to create an adaptive music system.

Description

A roguelite game where a mage retrieves lost colors to his world.

You can play up to six classes (currently) with different play styles and unique abilities.

You have to fight in 3 to 6 fortresses with 10 rooms with different color themes, and after that, you have to fight the final boss in a tower with random colors.

Actually, there is only the yellow color and the green color is in development.

Gameplay

You move with WASD, attack with left click (hold or click), use your special ability with right-click, and use your dash with space or shift.

Before entering a room, you can see the rewards you will get at the end of the room, and you can choose between two doors.

When entering a room, you have to kill all the enemies to open the door to the next room.

Weapons

You can have up to two weapons, one in each hand, they can be one or two hands, and you can switch between them with the mouse middle click or X key.

They have a rarity, which defines:

  • Their stats and the number of color infusions they can have.
  • The stats each levels it gains.
    • The level of the weapon increases by 1 at the end of each room.
    • The player will be able to increase it with different items.

Color Infusion

You can infuse your weapon with a color, which will give you a bonus with how many colors you have infused in your weapons.

A weapon infused three times with yellow color and one time with green color

Each time a color is infused, a part of the weapon will be colored with the color.

Relics

A relic selector item

You can choose between three different relics in the relic selector.

Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary rarities

They can give you passive bonuses or stats. They have different rarities and can be upgraded up to three times.

Classes

There are six different classes in the game, each with a different play style and unique abilities.

You can upgrade your class relics with Color Shard found in the game.

What did I learn?

This was my third game in Unity, and I learned a lot about:
